Vidal Sassoon The Movie

Last week I was given the most incredible opportunity to join other beauty and fashion bloggers and interview Vidal Sassoon himself, about the upcoming biographical film on his life, Vidal Sassoon The Movie. For those of you not familiar with Vidal Sassoon, he is a hair styling icon. Made famous by his short angular (and one must say- almost geometrical) cuts in the 1960's, he made it his mission to bring out the natural shine and beauty of hair, without excessive use of products. He has a strong belief that a stylist should always work with the bone structure of their subject, as hair is malleable (although an understanding of the individual's hair is key as well). His unique vision for hair, which was largely influenced by his interested in architecture and sculpture, changed the way generations of stylists view hair.

Luckily we were able to get his views on a few important matters out there! When asked what celebrity out there who's style he really admires and thinks always gets it right, he said Linda Evangelista. The fact that she changed her style regularly every few months is both bold and brave, and not to mention she hardly ever got it wrong! And when it comes to what current hair trends he is not too fond of, he simply cannot stand the curtains of hair he sees hanging down along women's faces. Although he does love a long hair style, he thinks the hair should actually be cut into a style- not hanging lifeless and stuck to the sides of a face (valid point, Vidal!).

Vidal Sassoon is such an icon in the hair industry, and the advice he gave all of us on the call are clearly words to live by. "Fear is the worst enemy - go for it! If it is liked, great! If it isn't, keep going for it!" Words of wisdom that can really be used in any industry. I cannot wait to see the film myself, and I hope that everyone goes to see this and learn a little but more about the man behind such an iconic brand.
